Financial Exploitation Protocol Manual
The Center was awarded a nine-month grant by the Extendicare Foundation in September 2009 to produce a best practices manual for identifying and responding to financial exploitation of vulnerable adults in care facilities. This Manual and Model Protocol, completed in June 2010, is the first comprehensive guide to prevention, staff training, identifying signs of exploitation, advocating for the vulnerable adult, and reporting to authorities. Iris C. Freeman, Adjunct Professor, was the Project Director. Sara Blessing and former Center Scholar Ashley Helgason,2010 graduates of WMCL, were research assistants on the project.
