If you are taking classes during J-Term, your financial aid can be adjusted to cover the cost of the classes. To request an increase to cover either on or off campus studies, complete the J-Term Financial Aid Application form. Additional loans, usually in the form of a Grad PLUS loan, are processed to cover the requested increase. Processing of additional aid for J-term will begin as soon as the form is received in the Financial Aid Office.
NOTE: Please complete and submit the form AFTER you have registered for classes and include only the number of credits you are registered for. Waitlisted class costs can be added later if necessary.
For classes to be taken on campus
J-term financial aid does not allow for additional living expenses or books; the increase will be to cover your coursework only. The loan funds for J-Term costs will be received at WMCL concurrent with your spring term funds and will be applied against your outstanding account balance. Some scholarships can be used for on-campus coursework during J-Term, and if applicable, will be applied accordingly. Perkins loans are not applicable for J-Term courses. You must still register for classes through the registration process. The form is due to the Financial Aid Office by Dec. 17, 2010 for on-campus classes.
For classes to be taken off campus
When the completed form is received in the Financial Aid Office, the host school will be contacted to verify your registration and add the program costs to your financial aid eligibility. You must remember to register with the host school as well as complete a Transfer of Credit Request [PDF] form to be approved by Dean Thompson. You are responsible for paying program fees, deposits, and purchasing airfare and any other preparatory costs.
Federal loan funds cannot be disbursed earlier than the 10th calendar day before the first day of class. A refund check will be available on the Friday following that day. If you are unable to pick up your refund check, you should contact Jennnifer.Kennedy @wmitchell.edu in the Finance Office to make alternative arrangements to receive the refund check. Perkins loans and scholarships are not applicable for off-campus study. The form is due on December 6th, 2010 for off-campus classes.
