Weather!

Category: Library Blog, stuff Tags: December 9, 2012 @ 3:44 pm

This seems as good a day as any to remind you of the school’s weather-related campus closings procedure. If you have not already done so, you should sign up for Mitchell’s e2Campus system, which will text and/or email you in the event of a school closing. Additionally, such notices will be posted on the College website, and you can call the main switchboard at 651-227-9171 or Toll Free 1-888-962-5529 (option 3 for Weather Information).

For snow plowing / snow emergency information:

Stay safe (and don’t get plowed in!)!

Resources for getting published and finding article topics

Category: Library Blog Tags: , , July 20, 2012 @ 5:06 pm

Stumped in coming up with a topic for a journal article or long paper? Wondering about how to get published? I’ve been collecting links of tips on where to find law review article ideas for a while:

  • I bookmark them in Delicious, here (you don’t need a Delicious account to access the links). Some of the links in that list are to library guides from other schools; some of the links are to blogs and blog posts.
  • Included in that list is a BNA product, U.S. Law Week, which has a “circuit split roundup” every week – the link should go right to the Circuit Split topic within U.S. Law Week, but you’ll need your Mitchell username/login to get in there. Circuit splits make great law journal topics, as they represent issues that should eventually be resolved by the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Speaking of the Supreme Court, you can check out SCOTUSblog’s “Petitions We’re Watching” section.  This is a list of cert petitions that should come to the Supreme Court soon, so, depending on your/their timing, there might be some interesting topics there ripe for a law review article.

As to how to get published in law journals, I’ve collected a few guides and some articles on that, as well, you can access those links here. Additionally, Professors Nancy Levit and Allen Rostron at University of Missouri at Kansas City – School of Law regularly update a piece entitled, “Information for Submitting Articles to Law Reviews & Journals,” which provides a comprehensive list of practical information from law reviews on how to submit articles, formatting requirements, etc.

You might also want to check out these books:

Best of luck in your writing!
