William Mitchell College of Law and Merchant & Gould have named Dr. Frederick Mostert 2012 winner of the Paul A. Welter Award for Excellence in Trademark Law.
Mostert is the chief legal counsel of Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA and considered one of the world’s leading experts on intellectual property law. He holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University School of Law and a doctorate from the University of Johannesburg.
The annual award recognizes in-house trademark counsel for outstanding career accomplishments and service to the community. It is named after Paul Welter ’64, who died of cancer in 2006. Welter had a long and distinguished career in trademark law at Merchant & Gould. He was also active in the Minneapolis Rotary, the Legal Aid Society, the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association, and the William Mitchell board of trustees.
Mostert will receive his award, which includes a plaque and a $5,000 honorarium to the charity of his choice, Nov. 8 at a reception in Orlando, Fla.
